Vlade, where you at?

I've made it my New Year resolution to post another update within the first week of January. As you can see - I'm on a strict timetable and everything is going according to plan.

But I'm right here. I'm amazed that no one tried calling the police to find my corpse in the apartment or something, but then again, you guys are just as lazy as I am.

For that matter, I'd like to announce that my work with this project is officially... Going strong (gotcha there!). I have to remind everyone that this is my pet project and I have to earn money some way or another, so I'm preoccupied with other things as well (that actually take the majority of my time).

I feel like I should at least entertain you, so my next update (hopefully I won't post within the same time interval) will include a poll regarding some stuff I'm translating, i.e. "How would like this thing to be called?" because sometimes I actually have no idea or can't decide between two good options. But then again, I'm a hack so that's understandable.

So yeah, still here, still translating, still trying to make it look like I'm not lying and this whole project is not made up.

P.S. My ISP has blocked 4chan for good - that is why I don't appear there anymore. I can't even browse it (well, with the help of proxies I can, but I can't post for shit) so I'm pretty shut off from all the things that are happening. I could resort to Reddit or some other platform, but something tells me that I shouldn't. Maybe you can prove me wrong. If someone's still following this thing. Because I feel like when this Project is going to be finished - I'll be the only guy interested in it.

Lack of updates, lack of everything

Yo!

Sorry for my absence: I don't want to get into details, but let's just say that the charges are now dropped since they found no evidence.

As of now I'm working on the only thing that's left for me to translate: the actual in-game dialogue. You have to take my word for it, since the game is still going berserk on every piece of dialogue I'm trying to encode in the game itself, so right now I just ripped off the whole text and just focus on translating it. After that I'll just call up my codebro (whom I haven't seen in a long while) or just ask someone in /ADGD/ thread.  They'll probably help me. Probably.

To keep up the fucking continuity in dialogues I use this spreadsheet to see if I'm using correct spelling or even talk about the right place (since every person or every place in this game has at least 3-4 nicknames, it's rather weird - but I can't keep them all in my head, I'm afraid that I'll mix them up or worse).

I'm doing this so that I don't have to actually play the game (thank god) and remember what part is it from, since the place in this game heavily influences the dialogue (and there're no "names" in my textfile - only index numbers, who are also mixed up, so one line can refer to one character in one place and the next one will refer to other character in a completely different situation, you can imagine that it's hard to keep track of this shit).

So, everything goes rather well, I'm not dead, the project is "sorta" alive and you don't have to worry about me not updating anything in a long while.

Cheers. Also, be sure to support IPL's Kickstarter that will go live in September (or October, can't remember), so that new Pathologic will buy me some time to finish this mess.

Are you dead, Vlad?

Dead as disco, but still working. Still working. I feel sad that Pathologic isn't discussed enough on 4chains, but I guess it pays off being a niche game with a horrible translation.

So why don't you look at this instead:
I haven't found in system files the actual names of characters, but I'm sure I'll stumble upon them sooner or later.

Some intro shots. Believe me, they read like shit in Russian too. But then again, I'm a fucking hack, so that counts too.
This one is Bachelor's

Here comes Burakh the Reaper
I can't post the Impostress since I have been installing\unistalling Pathologic couple of times each week when something fucks up my translation. And, as you probably know, you have to beat the game to unlock her.

Since we're posting pictures, here's me in some diner

And you see these when you start the game

So here's what I'm doing now:
a) Quest logs
b) Dialogs
But mind you, there's still this "??? ??? ?????? ?" issue when it comes to Dialogs. I honestly don't know what this game has against me, but I still can't find the issue behind it - mean, you saw the previous screens - they had zero problems, but when it comes to Dialogs, then everything goes bananas. So I'm just ignoring it and carrying on with my translation.

Boy, do I have news for you!

Well, it seems that there has been some BIG news about Pathologic recently. Namely, Ice-Pick Lodge is beginning to revive its “Pathologic HD” idea. Right now, they’re making preparations for establishing a successful Kickstarter campaign with promo videos and everything.

We don’t know what this HD version will include, but as I see it – if they’re going to resort to Kickstarter, then they’re practically obliged to make a decent translation this time around.
Now, where does this put me, exactly? Shall I withdraw myself from trying to make a translation for a version that’s probably going to be outclassed, or should I continue my efforts in order to deliver that thing I promised some time ago?
I’ve been thinking long and hard about this one. And I’ve decided to follow my obligations and complete this project of mine. I still don’t know how long it’s going to take, but I also don’t know how long it will take IPL to remake their game, if I manage to make my translation 2 days before their version – that’s good enough. If I manage to make it 2 years after their version – well, that suits me just fine too. Why? Because I can’t vouch for quality of this remake. What if they cut something? What if they rewrite some lines? What if the atmosphere will be completely different due to a new HD engine? And I also believe that some people would still play the original version.
This is why I’ve decided to keep my promise. I’m sorry that I don’t post more frequently, but freelancing does terrible things to a man. But it takes a lot of balls to go on, even if you know that there’s going to be a whole crew of people doing the same job I do, and they even get paid for doing it.

I don’t know why I still do it, though. I just spent too much time on it to stop now. I believe that it will be for the best.
So, let’s wish Ice-Pick Lodge a successful Kickstarter campaign and let’s see these two projects completed together, shall we? I also wish you all the best in this new year.
Sincerely yours,

Apologies for my mad MSPaint skillz.

This project is totally not dead!

Yeah, it's been a while, I know. Sorry for keeping you waiting for so long, I'm sure that many of you think that this project has met its end but like I said: this project means a lot to me, I can't leave it behind just like that.

The reasons for this apparent lack of updates are many: I've had some run-ins with the worst part of my family, tragic break up, job searching, evading taxes, avoiding spoilers for the newest Ace Attorney (unsuccessufully, I might add) and other stuff. But who the hell wants to hear me bitching about my personal stuff - I'll just keep it to myself.

But don't worry, despite all those bad things, I've been working on the translation nonetheless. Just not so hard and frequent as I thought I'd be.

Still, I feel that making a post every fortnight would seem redundant: there's so much progress I can make in two weeks and there's not much to show you other than those specific translated lines. I'm a fan of big picture things.

I can safely say that Descriptions of clothes, weapons and items (also quest items!) are done. But there have been some problems with integrating this stuff into various version of the game (GoG and 1.0\1.1 versions) - some items are displayed correctly and some are shown as "???". I'll look into that.

As of now, I'm moving onto translating Quest Log. Thank you for your patience, I'll do my best for you, guys.

Publicity stunt

A week ago, right after I made my last Pathologic thread, I got this:
Posting from your ISP, IP range, or country has been blocked due to abuse.

So, naturally, I sent a nice mail to moot/mods, asking them to lift my ban and whatnot because I wanted to make a regular weekly thread about Pathologic (and shitpost in Payday 2 threads) to draw the attention of new anons to feed this powerhouse.

And sometime later I got this reply: "This ISP block will not be removed due to persistent spambot activity on your ISP", go figure. It's not like I've got a room full of PCs, mining for bitcoins, no-no, all props go to my ISP. Not sure what I'm going to do now. Probably stay in read-only mode for quite a while.

And here's the part where I ask you, fearless people of the Intraweb, to create (not too often) Pathologic threads on /v/ (where you would casually mention about this project going on). I don't want people to lose this thing out of their sight ( and given youse guys' ADHD, I'm quite surprised that you still manage to read this blog from time to time, that's really nice to see) because I feel that there are a lot of Pathologic diehard fans who couldn't get past Day 1 because of botched translation.

So there it is, I ask you to do something for me, I hope it's not too much to ask. I'd hate this thing being forgotten. Thanks in advance, friends.

I'm well informed that I can post using proxies but I'm too lazy for that...

Houston, we have a progress

Okay, it seems that I made a little progress on this project and now I'm happy to announce that:

Map indications

Names

Interface messages and interface itself

Controls

and also, opening "cutscene" texts as well as characters' biographies

are done!

Stay tuned for more, this time I'll focus on Descriptions of clothes, weapons and items, people's thoughts and Quest logs.

Don't you dare losing faith in me: this project deserves to be done and I'll see it to its completion soon enough.
